Make Music Winter
Sunday, December 21, 2025
Join us as at over a dozen events around NYC to celebrate the shortest day of the year!
The Gaits
“Gaits” is an immersive, site-specific music procession featuring commissioned compositions by Lainie Fefferman, Jascha Narveson and Cameron Britt in which the wonders of our everyday technology transform participants’ movements into musical Improvisations. Paraders use a free app that captures the GPS coordinates and velocities of their movements to trigger a variety of twinkling metallic sounds, electric guitar chords, dulcimer notes, water splashes, car horns and applause – empowering marchers to effortlessly make music while interacting with their environment and each other.
MichelleKMusic
MichelleKMusic is a circle of professional musicians dedicated to exceptional teaching and the lifelong pursuit of artistry. Our mission is to provide music education that is both rigorous and inspiring, helping every student develop confidence, skill, and their fullest musical potential.
Holiday Harmonica Jam
Harmonica virtuoso Jiayi He (America’s Got Talent) teaches everyone to play the harmonica and leads participants in a holiday classics jam session to showcase their new skills. All skill levels and ages are welcome!
Kalimba Unity Groove Experience
Kalimba specialist Kevin Nathaniel has assembled an all-star ensemble including fellow mbira players, percussion, xylophone, guitar and flute, to lead an interactive music experience with jam friendly instruments available for public participation.
Grand Street Campus HS Marching Band
Grand Street Campus HS Marching Band
The Pride of Grand Street Campus! Musicians from the 3 schools at Grand Street Campus meet every day to learn music that will delight your ears. They not only perform for their school sporting events but also for museum openings, athletic events, in parades throughout the year, and even for the Mayor at his State of the City address. They are excited to bring you some music as they march down Metropolitan Avenue towards Macri Triangle and maybe even McCarren Park on Sunday, December 21 @ 1:00 pm. Come out and enjoy the music.
The 12th Annual Flatfoot Flatbush
Join us for a festive evening of fun and flatfooting as we parade along North Flatbush Avenue and stop by local businesses to share music and cheer! We'll celebrate the Winter Solstice by generating some light and warmth on the shortest day of the year. Hosted by North Flatbush Avenue BID and Porch Stomp, in partnership with Make Music New York and the City Stompers!
Eliza Spear
Eliza Spear performs The Brooklyn Circus, a live album recorded on the streets of Brooklyn.
Mobile Hallelujah
Conductor Douglas Anderson and producer Melissa Gerstein again team up to lead Mobile Hallelujah, bringing the oldest continuously performed piece of Classical music to the streets of NYC. Participating singers will gather at six popular midtown locations to sing the famously uplifting “Hallelujah Chorus” from George Fredric Handel’s Messiah, surprising passersby with seemingly spontaneous outbursts of the most famous choral piece in history.
Ukulele Caroling
Singer/songwriter and ukulele whiz Gwendolyn Fitz leads players of all skill levels in this group play-along of classic holiday and repertoire tunes for the ukulele.
Pilgrimage
Led by conductor James John, artistic director of the Cerddorion Vocal Ensemble, headlamp-clad singers will walk a route along Riverside Park making stops at the Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Monument and other landmarks to sing medieval melodies once sung on the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela.
Radiant Revelry
Ghost Band Plays Ghost Venues, a project of musician Stefan Zeniuk and HONK NYC!, honors creative spaces that once were. The ensemble’s 3rd annual expedition explores the area around East Houston Street. Parade through multiple generations – and genres – of music history, haunting once revered but now shuttered music halls, sites currently home to boutiques, banks, and hotels.
Bell by Bell
“Bell by Bell” is a fun Make Music Winter tradition designed to transform first time participants and non-musicians into Music Makers. It is the perfect program for kids and families.
