HONK NYC! & Moment NYC co-present:
Radiant Revelry for Make Music New York
A Winter Solstice Happening featuring Ghost Band Plays Ghost Venues.
Regeneration is the very nature of New York. Cycling through time, one discovers cultural rebirth over and over, questioning what it means for any era to simply “BE.”
Ghost Band Plays Ghost Venues, a project of musician Stefan Zeniuk and HONK NYC!, honors creative spaces that once were. The ensemble’s 3rd annual expedition explores the area around East Houston Street. Parade through multiple generations – and genres – of music history, haunting once revered but now shuttered music halls, sites currently home to boutiques, banks, and hotels. The hallowed incubators of NYC’s musical heritage, cornerstones of punk, hard-core, jazz, folk, house, experimental, indie rock, salsa, performance art, drag culture, and more, may be gone but are not forgotten. Touch the past and sing a song for the town that continues to inspire. Venues to be rehabilitated for one night only include: Lismar Lounge, Princess Pamela’s Southern Touch, The Spiral, Save The Robots, Gas Station, Slug’s Saloon, The Stone, Meow Mix, Tonic, Cake Shop, Luna Lounge, Pink Pony, Surf Reality, and The Living Room.
Meet at Baker Falls, 192 Allen Street, beginning at 3pm for parade prep. Step off at 4pm. The processional lasts approximately one hour.
Make your own parade costume, prop, or instrument at the Craftivation Station. Grab a hot mug of something from the barista. DJ Illexxandra spins before and after the parade, with live performances from HONK Family Band and a special Moment NYC project upon the parade's return to Baker Falls.
