Conductor Douglas Anderson and producer Melissa Gerstein again team up to lead Mobile Hallelujah, bringing the oldest continuously performed piece of Classical music to the streets of NYC. Participating singers will gather at six popular midtown locations to sing the famously uplifting “Hallelujah Chorus” from George Fredric Handel’s Messiah, surprising passersby with seemingly spontaneous outbursts of the most famous choral piece in history.
Pop-up locations and approximate performance start times (travel time is worked into the schedule):
2:00pm from the front steps of the main branch of the New York Public Library at 476 Fifth Avenue, between the lions.
2:15pm from the entrance to Grand Central Terminal at One Vanderbilt Avenue.
2:30pm from the front steps of St. Patrick’s Cathedral at 631 Fifth Avenue.
2:45pm from the George M. Cohan statue at Duffy Square at 7th Avenue and 46th Street.
3:00pm in front of the main entrance to Carnegie Hall at 881 Seventh Avenue and 57th Street.
3:15pm from the Turnstyle Underground Market in the 59th Street & 8th Avenue Subway Station.
3:30pm in front of the fountain at 10 Lincoln Center Plaza, facing east.
Any singer who knows their part to the chorus is welcomed and encouraged to participate simply by showing up to their preferred location by the start time, but if you know you will be participating please RSVP.
